Carina Holmberg at HiQ Approve, Arboga

My name is Carina and flying JAS 39 Gripen planes is part of my day-to-day life! I have worked at HiQ Approve for almost ten years and I’m very happy here. There is a “high ceiling” and I have many friendly and competent colleagues. My assignments for HiQ’s clients mainly involve system development of realtime systems, both in in-house projects and as a consultant working on site for HiQ’s clients in the defence sector.

My work in the past involved developing test programmes for various components of the older fighter planes AJS 37 and JA 37, i.e. Viggen. I also had time for a short spell as an upper secondary school teacher.

I started at HiQ in 1998 and since then I have been along for the ride as the company has evolved from a small company in Sweden to a big group of companies operating throughout the Nordic region. What I appreciate is that the company has managed to maintain the HiQ spirit of enjoyment and a low key attitude.

HiQ’s decision to work with high-tech clients is great in my opinion because it gives me the opportunity to work with exciting technology and challenging assignments. Right now I am taking part in a project for Saab Aerosystems to develop a training simulator for JAS 39 Gripen. In simple terms this means that I am adapting and integrating live aircraft code into simulator environments. The project has entered a very intensive phase as we conduct the final tests before delivering the simulator to South Africa. Alongside the Saab project, I am participating in one of our in-house projects where we have been commissioned by the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) to modify and update an earlier version of a simulator for Gripen.

Something that is very inspiring and that makes me proud to work for HiQ is the company’s ingenious marketing, often using unconventional methods like advertising in the underground, using the animated dog Bengan and now involving the virtual world – the “World of HiQ”.

One of the positive things that HiQ has is a flat organisation where there is considerable flexibility and decisions can be made quickly. Another good thing is the consultant school where people have the opportunity to continue their education with their colleagues within HiQ. Apart from all of the professional challenges, our lives at HiQ are infused with pleasant experiences such as a family day of fishing or sailing the HiQ trimaran.
